The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG to Date

The buzz surrounding The Game Awards was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team might be building a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it kicked off the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—qualities that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve with a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be solved in a variety of manners, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
