Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests indicate the substance was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials said they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A senior representative commented the incident made him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
